Rett, J. and Ritter, C. "Automation of
a Chip Disposal Plant ", Project, Crya, Darmstadt and Habermehl,
Butzbach and Adam Opel AG, Rüsselsheim.
The aim of this project is to automate the collection of chips
thatpile up during the production of power trains for cars.
The production line consists of more than 50 machines which
areconnected via tubes with the central collecting unit. The
transportationof the chips through the tubes are realized with underpressure, crusher devices, screw conveyors and valves. The actuators
arecontrolled with an IPC from Siemens via Profibus modules coveringan overall distance of more than 2 miles. Each unit has an
operatorpanel to show the unit's status and occurred alarms. With
the sequencechains based software a program is developed using principles of Time Slicing known from computer's Task Scheduling to be
sureevery unit can deliver its chips and additional requestscan be handled. With the Man Machine Interface (MMI) at the central unit the Time slice can be manipulated.
