Rett, J. and Ritter, C. (2002). "Automation of a carrot mash plant", Project, Crya, Darmstadt and Guth Engineering, Landau and Dohrn&Timm, Diedersdorf.

The focus of this project is to automate a plant producing carrot mash by several heating processes. The plant is implemented in an existing production line having a conveyor belt system with a masticator at the product inlet and a centrifugal juicer at the outlet. The control strategy has to deal with a system having an irregular flow rate and shape of the product at the inlet and the requirement of a steady flow to the outlet. Furthermore the product transport is controlled with two pumps in a row realizing flow rate of up to 15,000 liter per hour of a viscous and inhomogeneous product. The heating processes are controlled with cascade controllers and disturbance variable compensation.
A Man Machine Interface (MMI) is created running at a Touchpanel PC. It provides full manual control of all actuators, schematics of the plant, presentation of the measured values, curves of the stored values, logging and presentation of alarms.
